The Meejee is a facial cleansing device with ultra-soft silicone bristles that transfer high frequency vibrations onto your skin and pores. It gently exfoliates, thoroughly cleanses and removes dirt, oil and makeup, effectively keeps pores clean and discourages breakouts. The result, clear, smooth and glowing skin in under a minute.
The device comes with a USB cord (5V DC/1A), a full charge taking approximately 2 hours to complete. You generally need to charge it every couple of months (dependent on usage duration and frequency) which is very convenient. If you forget to turn it off, it shuts down after 10 minutes so is power efficient. It performs 3000-8000 Hi-F vibrations every minute, the number dependent on the setting selected.
It also recalls your last choice with intelligent memory. One of the best features of this product is that it’s waterproof, so you can take it into the shower or run it under water to clean it without damage.
The Meejee is a two sided device, the front contains soft silicone bristles to deliver cleansing and gentle exfoliation as well as the controls. There are three touch controls which include central power up/down plus increase and decrease frequency controls. The back is a smooth curved surface which acts as a massage tool. The bristles should be applied over the entire face (excluding the eyes of course but it’s safe to use around the sockets), concentrated more at pore problem areas where whiteheads and blackheads might commonly form. Areas should include cheeks, forehead, nose and jawline. The massage side helps to relieve signs of stress and fatigue by relaxing tense face and neck muscles. Continuous use can potentially ease existing fine lines and wrinkles as well as slow their progress and retard the formation of new ones.
who should use the Meejee
Anyone seeking smooth and soft skin should consider introducing the Meejee into their skincare routine. It promises results after as little as one week. It achieves this by gently yet thoroughly lifting layers of dead skin that wouldn’t normally be removed by cleansing with hands alone. Furthermore, used with a cleansing balm or oil, the Meejee speeds up and simplifies the makeup removal process.
Those prone to acne, blackheads and whiteheads will benefit from the Meejee. It has the ability to deeply yet gently clean pores. Together with effective removal of dead skin cells that can harbour bacteria, it helps to minimise blemishes and breakouts.
In order to achieve the promised results, only a couple of minutes dedication is needed each day. One minute per cleanse once or twice daily is recommended. Over applying or over cleansing will not accelerate results, in fact, it will do the contrary and make your skin more prone to problems since it may compromise the moisture barrier. So, it’s important to practice patience.
The Meejee should be used with either a first or second step cleanser applied to a dry face. Wet the Meejee and glide it in circular motions over the different zones of the face for a minute to thoroughly cleanse. Follow by rinsing as usual.
the Meejee method
As one of the key benefits of using the device is maintaining excellent pore health, Meejee provide a suggested routine to enhance this benefit. Cleverly, it comes in a short and long version so it will fit in with your routine without a problem. The simplified routine includes the minimum steps required for the method to work while the complete one is the optimal process to guarantee results by implementing proven actives that target dirty pores.
the Meejee method – simplified
This method requires a Clay Mask, Oil Cleanser and Moisturiser.
A Clay mask is used to absorb excess oil and impurities. It should never be used too often (once or twice a week is sufficient) or for too long as it can cause drying of the skin that can trigger the overproduction of oils, negating its purpose.
Meejee with your oil cleanser
The clay mask has brought the gunk that hides in your pores to the surface, priming their removal with the Meejee. Apply a cleansing oil or balm to the skin and let it sit on the surface for a minimum of 10 minutes to encourage debris to loosen for easier removal. Use the Meejee for 2 minutes targeting areas of concern.
Finish by applying cream to replenish the moisture your clay mask extracted.
the Meejee method – complete
This complete Meejee method incorporates three additional steps to more thoroughly cleanse and maintain pore health. It introduces actives to chemically exfoliate, hydrate and manage sebum production. To work, it requires a Clay Mask, Oil Cleanser and Moisturiser as per the simplified process and also includes BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid – Salicylic Acid), Hyaluronic Toner plus Niacinamide + Zinc serum.
Refer to Simplified Method.
Refer to Simplified Method.
Apply Salicylic Acid (preferably at 2% concentration), a BHA that targets the inside of the pores to strip out impurities. This step is key to preventing clogged pores that surface as whiteheads, blackheads and sebaceous filaments. Keep it on the skin for 20 minutes and don’t wash it off.
Layer a hydrating Hyaluronic Acid toner to commence replenishing the moisture lost from the clay step. It’s important to try to maintain a healthy oil balance which results when skin is sufficiently hydrated and not stripped of natural oils. Apply at least two skins. Use an optional essence or sheet mask rich in humectants for added hydration.
A Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) + Zinc based serum will help to address pore congestion by better regulating sebum production. Less impurities and stale sebum inside the pore will also reduce their appearance, resulting in smoother looking skin. Niacinamide is a superstar ingredient that coincidentally also provides additional benefits including boosting collagen production. Zinc (optional) enhances sebum regulation.
Finish by applying cream to replenish the moisture your clay mask extracted.
I have been using a combination of the simplified and complete Meejee methods now for 2 weeks, choice dependent on my time and mood. For someone that previously only ever used fingers for face cleansing without any tools, devices, sponges or cloths, the experience has been surprisingly pleasant. I used to think these gadgets were just a novelty, but I can honestly say that I actually look forward to applying the Meejee every night. It not only helps to clean my face properly but it is quite therapeutic.
As far as the physical experience goes, the device is nicely weighted and designed. It fits comfortably into the palm of your hand and is light so it’s easy to maneuver. The tapered top allows it to slide into hard to reach areas like the side of the nose and eye sockets for a consistent and complete clean.
The controls are soft touch and work well. The central button powers the device (automatically powers down if you forget after 10 minutes) and the touch points either side increase or decrease the frequency of the pulses. Very easy to use and also equally easy to charge with a simple USB cord. Recharging is something you do only a few times a year as it remains operational for several weeks at a time between charges. It’s also simple to clean so whether you use a foam, oil or cream cleanser with it or alternatively decide to massage a face oil into the skin at the end of your routine, remnants of the product used wash off the silicone surface quickly and easily rendering it hygienic. I leave mine to air dry upright and place it on a woven surface so air can circulate the whole device allowing any trapped water on the bottom to fully evaporate.
For the record, my skin is normal to combination and I have a tendency to form blackheads and whitehead across my cheekbones. It was actually quite a timely offer from Meejee to try this product as just before I started, I had a terrible outbreak of whiteheads in this area, I think caused by a particular product I was trialing at the time. So, my skin condition certainly gave this device a chance to shine.
After my very first use, I noticed an immediate softening and smoothing of the skin. I didn’t expect any results to be honest. I felt that my skin is already getting the benefits claimed. After all, how could two minutes using the Meejee on skin that is regularly exfoliated with an acid toner, detoxed with a clay mask a couple of times a week, double cleansed every night and cleansed in the morning have any impact? To my surprise, it did. My skin instantly felt smoother and softer. So, I was already addicted to the process after one use. I used it continuously for two weeks and saw some vast improvements in pore health.
The main one occurred within the first week. My unsightly whiteheads had completely shrunk down to a point where they were far less noticeable when touching the skin, although still visible. The bumpy texture had almost gone. Now, after two weeks, they are smaller still.
Another outcome concerns blackheads to which I am also unfortunately prone. Acids and oil cleansing have helped me rid the blocked pores from my nose over the last several months but I still get scatterings around my cheeks. Two weeks with the Meejee and I have hardly any blackheads left! My skin is so much clearer and smoother, I am thrilled with the results.
Now, I’m not saying that the Meejee Method wouldn’t work without the Meejee but it certainly does accelerate results. The key is the stuff you put on your face. The device simply makes sure that this stuff fulfills its full potential and efficacy by priming the skin to receive it, therefore promoting penetration and effectiveness. The only item I hadn’t included in my routine prior to introducing the Meejee is Niacinamide (although I did have this serum on hand). Also, I have been using different combinations of hydroxy acids so perhaps not enough consistent BHA use to have enough effect on my pores. But, I acid tone and clay mask and do all the right things but was still so very prone to blocked comedones. This makes me conclude that this device really encourages my skincare to work better.
Finally, let’s consider the massage claims of this device. Looking at the back of this tool, it really doesn’t look like it would do much in terms of releasing stress and tension from the face. However, I’m pleased to report that my first impressions were wrong, very wrong! I was very surprised by how soft and delicate it feels on the skin. It really works well to relax my face. After cleansing, I turn it around and massage for an equal (sometimes longer) amount of time before rinsing both my skin and the device. I also sometimes use it apply my face oils as it is such a pleasurable sensation on the face.
The Meejee device has exceeded my expectations. It has helped to de-stress and relax my face muscles while also assisting to clear my pores and reduce/eliminate white and blackheads respectively. Overall, gentle silicone bristles deliver a good cleanse and exfoliation for brighter and smoother skin. I really like this device and would recommend it to anyone, particularly those with combo to oily skin that suffer blocked pores or anyone looking simply for smoother skin.
