Pyunkang Yul Moisture Lotion

the claim

The Pyunkang Yul Moisture Lotion claims to gently provide abundant moisture to the face and body.

the science

Pyunkang Yul is an eastern medicinal skincare clinic in South Korea with a focus in the treatment of atopic skin ailments. A demand from patients resulted in the launch of their own skincare line.

This lotion uses gentle ingredients, all with a very low risk of causing irritation. The key active ingredient is Portulaca Oleracea Extract, a succulent plant which has long been associated with traditional health care due to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and wound healing properties. It also incorporates anti-ageing benefits and displays an ability to sooth skin, often used to treat conditions such as dermatitis and psoriasis.

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is derived from coconut oil. It is effective at creating a barrier on the skin’s surface resulting in decreased moisture loss. It is an excellent emollient, working to soften and smooth the skin.

Recommended for all skin types and all ages including infant use on face and body, it is free of nasties resulting in an ideal CosDNA analysis. EWG’s Skin Deep Cosmetic Database also rates it non-hazardous with an optimum score of 1.

the application

Dispense with a pump action an appropriate amount of lotion and apply broadly to face and body, re-applying as required.

the scent

I did not find any detectable smell associated with this lotion.

the cost

The 500ml Pyunkang Yul Moisture Lotion sells for approximately USD$17.00.

the availability

The Pyunkang Yul skincare line is becoming more easily available online with its growing popularity. This lotion is not as widely available as the serums, toners and face moisturizers (at least currently), as not every reseller will stock the entire range. I purchased this from Style Korean and it’s also available at Yes Style.

the expiry

The expiration date indicates 24 months but 12 months after opening.

the performance

Pyunkang Yul lotionThis lotion is soft and effortless to apply, sufficiently viscous such that it does not drip, resulting in a no mess application. It is instantly absorbed by the skin, leaving it feeling clean and smooth without any sign of greasiness or residue.

Approximately 6 pumps are adequate for full adult body coverage and one will cover the face and neck. It is very gentle hence certainly suitable for all ages as claimed. It is also effective at retaining moisturize and fulfilling its primary purpose.

As I don’t suffer any skin conditions that cause itching or irritation, I cannot comment on its effectiveness at reducing these symptoms.

It is refreshing to use a lotion with so few yet fundamental ingredients that fulfils its purpose in a gentle fashion. Furthermore, the price point is affordable for such a high quality product. A final positive note is that none of the products in this line are tested on animals. For me, there are no negatives associated with this lotion. It fulfils its claim and then some.

the conclusion

A product derived from medicinal origins using non-irritating ingredients, is affordable and applies beautifully on adults as well as babies is a clear winner.
