Fresh Face Skin claim that their Overnight Reverser treatment is a one-step evening application that will lighten uneven skin tone, hydrate, increase skin moisture levels, speed up cell turnover, increase collagen and elastin production whilst also boosting skin’s antioxidant levels. The result, plump, smooth, fresh face glow.
The claims of this treatment are broad and optimistic, so let’s consider whether the ingredients exhibit the behaviours required to fulfil them.
Starting with the highest concentrations, water is followed by sweet almond seed oil which is rich in Vitamin E, monounsaturated fatty acids, proteins, potassium and zinc. The sweet variety comes from edible almonds and is a popular skin and hair care ingredient due to its mild, hypoallergenic nature and its ability to protect from oxidative stress and UV radiation damage. This in turn results in a soft, supple skin texture. The fatty acids serve as a natural emollient, locking in moisture by forming a protective barrier. It is also a gentle exfoliant, clearing dead skin cells and an effective acne treatment, dissolving sebum to keep the pores clean.
Together, Jojoba Oil/Macadamia Seed Oil Esters, Squalene, Phytosteryl Macadamiate and Phytosterols are referred to as L22, a patented botanical emollient base which emulates the skin surface lipid profile of a healthy 22 year old. The lipid barrier is responsible for the recovery and maintenance of our skin health. With age, skin’s natural oil flow slows, leading to dryness and deterioration of the lipid barrier function. L22 revives the skin barrier to increase moisture and hydration resulting in higher skin elasticity and firmness.
Shea butter is a skin superfood. It is naturally rich in vitamins A, E and F and as such, provides the skin with essential fatty acids and the nutrients necessary for collagen production. It is a great moisturiser, ideal for dry skin as well as being an effective healer due to its anti-inflammatory properties.
Jojoba oil contains vitamins A, D and E which exhibit skin healing properties. It closely resembles our own skin’s sebum which allows it to add the needed oil to your skin’s surface layers. Jojoba oil penetrates deep beneath the surface to soften lines, nourish and protect skin surface layers without leaving an oily residue.
Sea buckthorn berry oil contains over 190 nutrients and high levels of natural vitamin C. Potent antioxidants help to fight free radical damage to prevent premature ageing whilst vitamins E, A and C nourish and heal. Similarly, Tocopherol (Vitamin E) and Calendula extract are naturally high in antioxidants delivering similar benefits, the latter additionally providing a mild exfoliation to brighten and lighten surface pigmentation. Lactic Acid also contributes natural exfoliation properties whilst Wakame seaweed, rich in essential fatty acids, assists with whitening.
Citrus Peel Oils are extraordinary antioxidants able to combat free radicals, helping to fight skin damage to effectively rejuvenate and brighten skin. They also exhibit strong anti-inflammatory properties to reduce redness and irritation. Citrus oils can help treat and prevent acne as they are toxic to the bacteria that causes pimples. When used in low concentrations, their benefits are realised without the fear of phototoxicity.
Easyliance is a blend of sunflower-based biopolymer and acacia gum, that work in synergy to naturally tighten skin on contact, lifting and smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles.
All up, it’s an impressive collection of ingredients that make up this formula, together (at least in theory), addressing all the manufacturer’s claims.

It was a pleasant surprise to receive my treatments gift wrapped in green tissue paper with a lovely thank you note from the creator, Amelia Goff.
The Fresh Face Skin treatments are all similarly designed for brand consistency, presented in clean green and white packaging. They come in sleek, long plastic cylindrical bottles featuring a pump action dispenser and lid. Their airless design means the product is pushed to the top of the dispenser with each pump to ensure none is wasted.
Entering the ingredients into the CosDNA database results in a favourable outcome for the Overnight Reverser. The CosDNA analysis rates it highly whilst the EWG Cosmetics Database, reflected similar results for a favourable overall hazard rating of 2/10, (noting that a few of the ingredients were not present in the database).
Use daily. Apply 1-2 pumps to a clean face each night. Overnight Treatments can be applied both morning and night, however Fresh Face Skin strongly advises the use of a sunscreen on top of the treatment application in the morning.
The lotion has a definite, natural citrus smell, provided by the lime and blood orange peel extracts. Although it is obvious, it is not overpowering nor irritating and dissipates soon after it is absorbed into the skin.
The Fresh Face Skin Overnight Reverser comes in a 50ml tube and sells for AUD$39.95.
Fresh Face Skin products are currently available from the company website. Buying two treatments allows free shipping within Australia, three internationally. They also offer a discount to new customers and announce regular percentage off sales.
The product has a 12 month lifespan with an expected duration of 2-3 months when used as directed.
Fresh Face Skin is a newly launched Australian skincare brand, the brainchild of its creator Amelia Goff. After almost a decade in the beauty industry, Amelia was inspired to produce a natural line of products that could both simplify skin care for busy women and men and also make it affordable. The company works on the principle that “less is more”. The overnight treatments involve an all inclusive single step, eliminating the need for a complicated daily routine, basically applied onto clean skin before bed. The Overnight Reverser is said to be ideal for combination-normal, ageing, sun-loved, dull and dehydrated skin. My skin certainly fits into most of these categories which would suggest I am an ideal candidate to test it.
Amelia informed me that I would see results in 2-3 weeks upon daily night time use of the treatment which could be accelerated if I also applied it in the morning followed by sun protection. After some patch testing, I started the Overnight Reverser once a day for a few days and quickly built up to twice, impatient to see results as usual! The application is easy, two pumps applied with the fingers to the face, avoiding the mouth and eye areas. The formula has the texture and appearance of a light weight lotion. It has a generous slip and is highly absorbent, so is very quick and easy to apply. Upon application, there is a slight tightening of the skin which is apparently due to the easyliance polymer film which acts by gently stretching the skin to lift and smooth lines. There is a warning that this might be uncomfortable, however, the sensation was only barely noticeable for me and in no way a challenge.
So, did I see any visible difference? Let’s consider the claims in three basic categories and address each one.
Firstly, the lotion claims to increase moisture levels and hydration. I am pleased to announce that I did find this product extremely hydrating. My skin along the jawline and lower cheeks tends to be quite dry, my T-zone oily and the rest of my face normal (a true combination skin type). This lotion appears to have balanced and retained that moisture over my entire face. I honestly didn’t expect it to work as well as it has performed since I have only managed this previously with more complicated combinations of hydrating toners, moisturisers, oils and serums. Hence, a big tick for hydration!
Secondly, uneven skin tone is improved with a lightening effect. Well, my face generally looks bright and fresh. It is difficult to quantify how much of that glow can be attributed to the treatment. Before starting this trial, I was getting great results with the Pixi Glow Tonic. The fact that the “glow” is still there at least indicates that this serum has been able to maintain or even match it, contributing to a radiant complexion.
And finally, it claims to improve skin smoothness, plumpness and glow through its anti-ageing abilities. Overall, my face feels and looks soft and healthy so, from this perspective, it is definitely comparable to the multi-step treatment I was undergoing before. Regarding fine lines and wrinkles, I have been using Timeless Matrixyl S6 Serum as a dedicated wrinkle softening agent for several months. This has been highly effective. I stopped using this serum during the trial to gauge how the Overnight Reserver performed in terms of collagen production and elasticity.
Firstly, I would have been surprised if the treatment showed any improvement on this front after such a short trial period of only 3 weeks. Secondly, I would not expect an all-rounder like this to compete with a dedicated anti-wrinkle powerhouse. Perhaps if I had not been using the Timeless serum prior to testing, I may have noticed results from the Overnight Reverser. Alternatively, if used together, the Overnight Reverser and anti-wrinkle serum may possibly complement each other.
It should be noted that this review is assessing the product performance based on its intended use. Although adding to the skincare routine is contrary to the objective of the Overnight Reverser, in practice, it may present an ideal solution. However, looking it at as a one-step treatment, no tick for line reduction, particularly based on the “results in three weeks” claim. Given the science however, there is certainly potential to see this over the longer term, especially for those not currently targeting wrinkles with other products.
For skin care enthusiasts like myself, a one step treatment takes away the fun of designing a routine and the ability to customise from day to day. Personally, I love the 20 or so minutes I spend pampering my face before bed. It’s very satisfying. I find the process of cleansing the day’s impurities and repairing the skin damage done through a multi-step process synonymous with the removal of layers of stress. It’s a relaxant for me.
Skin can change rapidly due to breakouts, hormone and stress levels, environmental effects and topical treatments to name a few. A one-stop-shop solution doesn’t allow you to play with the balance by responding to specific needs and changes. For instance, you may want to eliminate exfoliation while skin undergoes a repair process or increase hydration during winter. I guess you can always add to the routine, but that goes against the whole principle of this treatment.
Having said all that, this lotion still packs an excellent hydrating and softening punch and would suit those without the time or desire to perform a daily multi-step evening routine. Furthermore, it makes a great starter treatment for anyone seeking anti-ageing products and not knowing where to begin. The ingredients are gentle and effective and the application could not be simpler. Another excellent advantage is the portability of this product. It is a fantastic travel item, eliminating the need to carry a huge bag of toiletries since one small product replaces many.
In summary, this is a great treatment for those who want gentle and effective skincare or who desire a simplified routine.
The brand is currently working towards a cleanser to complement the overnight treatments in an effort to deliver a comprehensive, two step evening skincare solution. I look forward to trailing it when it is released in the new year.
