Huangjisoo Pure Daily Foaming Cleanser (Brightening)
The Huangjisoo Pure Daily Foaming Cleanser (Whitening & Brightening) claims to be a vitamin rich cleanser that will brighten skin tone and restore luster to dull skin with ingredients such as Green Tea Extract.
This cleanser boasts 99.5% natural, organic ingredients. Represented at the highest concentration in the formula is
There are several exotic plant extracts that assist to protect and heal skin. A few hero botanicals include
Malus Domestica is a liposomal preparation based on the stem cells of a rare Swiss apple which is rich in phytonutrients, proteins and long-living cells. This extract is said to protect skin from UV radiation and promote healthy cell growth for promising anti-ageing benefits.
Vacha Root Extract delivers a moisturizing, healing and anti-inflammatory effect on the skin. It has shown to be effective in the relief of burns and eczema.
Delivering multiple skincare benefits, Mugwort Extract is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, so an ideal treatment for rashes, persistent acne, eczema, redness and general skin irritations. Additionally, it contains Vitamin E to lock in moisture and strengthen the skin barrier. Anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties also appear in Rosemary, Cinnamon and Echinacea Extracts making them great for treating breakouts.
Ginseng Extract contains antioxidants that accelerate cell regeneration. It also improves blood circulation thus allowing the skin to look brighter. It has a proven effectiveness in fighting wrinkles by boosting skin-firming collagen whilst its detoxifying properties boost our immune response. Mulberry Leaf Extract has similar anti-aging effects as ginseng, topical use proving effective.
There are also extracts that address the brightening claims of this cleanser. Displaying a high concentration of Vitamin C, Acerola Fruit Extract is a potent antioxidant, able to protect against free radical damage and hence premature ageing. It has an ability to even and brighten tone as well as boost collagen and elastic production for younger looking skin. Similarly, boosting antioxidant protection and encouraging the enzymes that help cells combat UV damage is Broccoli Extract.
Licorice Root Extract has soothing qualities for sensitive skin. It’s also packed with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties making it suitable for treating skin conditions. A natural skin lightening ability improves blemishes and dark spots. Skullcap Extract also provides antioxidant protection against sun damage as well as delivering a potent tyrosinase inhibitor which can down regulate melanin production for a whitening effect. Seaweed Extract has may skin benefits. Firstly, it’s a great moisturiser, acting to deliver deep nourishment while combating dryness and itchiness. In doing so, it helps to make skin soft and smooth. It’s also quite cleansing, helping to diminish discolouration and pigmentation, so can leave the skin with a natural fresh glow.
There’s also Squalane. As a natural component of human sebum, it is well absorbed without greasy or oily residue. Antioxidants deliver protective and restorative functions while emollient properties helps to trap moisture keeping skin soft and supple.
Grapefruit Extract introduces ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) to the skin which helps break the bonds that dead skin can have with the living skin on your face for an exfoliating effect. Essential oils contribute useful actions also. Clary Oil helps to regulate sebum production and provides inflammatory relief. It can be effective against acne. Marjoram and Violet Leaf Oils impart antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial benefits to help soothe and heal skin. Orchid Oil is hydrating, as too Jasmine Oil, the latter also effective at evening skin tone and reducing the appearance of age spots.

The packaging of this brand is very cool and super cute. The unique bottom heavy bottle is pretty, fully opaque for light protection and the pump action provides hygienic dispensing. The protective lid prevents accidental discharge. Each bottle in the brand’s range is identified with different colour coding, green representing a brightening focus.
The content is a liquid which dispenses as an incredibly fine and airy lightweight foam. Looking at the liquid within the bottle, it retains a light brown tinge although it dispenses a white foam. As expected with a 99.5% botanical composition, it has a herbal scent that is quite refreshing. It’s not a makeup remover but rather acts as a second step cleanser.
A measure of 1-1.5 pumps applied to damp skin is enough to cleanse the entire face. The foam feels incredibly silky and light and really gentle, proven by the fact that I didn’t experience any stinging or irritation, even around the eyes. With a little massage it becomes creamier but still retains its lightweight look and feel. It rinses cleanly and easily with water and pleasantly lacks residue. One of the defining characteristics of a cleanser is whether it leaves the skin feeling dry once the surface moisture evaporates. This one definitely does not leave my face dry. This is confirmed by an ideal pH reading of around 6, ensuring it is slightly acidic to match and retain the skin’s moisture barrier.
Reflecting back on the product claims, this is meant to clean gently, leaving the skin brightened and fresh. It certainly performs a gentle clean that would be suited to all skin types (excluding anyone with allergies to essential oils or plant extracts). Dry skin would not find it stripping and oily skin will appreciate the balance achieved.
As for brightening, the formula uses vitamin C rich ingredients and melanin suppressing extracts to achieve this. My skin definitely looks fresh and bright straight after a cleanse, but I’m not sure it’s necessarily any brighter than results achieved with other good cleansers. The act of cleaning removes surface dirt and oils so skin will naturally look nicer and brighter. I’m also a little skeptical because ingredients are on the skin for only a short period of time (less than a minute) so have limited opportunity to impart this benefit. Similarly, I question whether antioxidants can achieve their full potential for the same reason.
In summary, I’m not convinced my face is necessarily brighter or whiter with this particular cleanser than any other but perhaps this benefit may be better realised with long term use. The ingredients are certainly capable of such effects. For the record, I have been using this cleanser for around a month.
The Huangjisoo Pure Daily Brightening Foaming Cleanser is 99.5% naturally derived, delightfully soft and lightweight. It feels completely satisfying and silky on the skin, generates a superfine foam and cleans effectively without stripping the moisture barrier. Good for all skin types.
