I’m From Mugwort Essence
the claim
The I’m From Mugwort Essence is made using 100% concentrated extract of top quality mugwort from Ganghwa County in Korea. It’s designed to calm and soothe irritated/troubled skin.
the science
With antibacterial and antifungal properties, Mugwort has been used medicinally for centuries in Asia as well as for traditional baths due to its detoxifying properties and infusions to help with digestion. There are several types of mugwort, the one used in this essence is commonly known as Asian Wormwood. Fermented 100% pure mugwort from Ganghwa, South Korea, promises to soothe the skin with calming properties. A terrific saviour, mugwort is a great soother of inflammation and irritation and one to reach for when skin is stressed and sensitized. Similarly, blemish prone skin will appreciate its antibacterial properties helping to ease breakouts.
Additionally, mugwort is a good hydrating and moisturising agent so helps to give skin a healthy glow.

the performance
The I’m From Mugwort Essence is packaged similarly to all the brand’s toners and essences, in a long cylindrical glass bottle with dropper opening and screw top protective lid. The mugwort range is presented consistently in olive green. The style is simple, elegant and environmentally friendly. The opening is great for controlled dispensing, making it easy to collect the right amount of product per application.
The essence is very thin, much like water and slightly tinted in colour to match the very light version of the shade packaging. It has a very slight herbal scent that’s really only noticeable if you concentrate and look for it. Personally, I don’t notice it at all. I use this essence at the recommended step, after a lightweight toner and before serum. As such, the essence is one of the first layers applied after cleansing, giving it the best opportunity to penetrate the skin and realize its potential.
The texture is beautiful. It has great slip but isn’t excessively slippery. Silky glide allows it to spread over the face effortlessly. Absorption takes only a short time when aided with patting. The initial slight tackiness dissipates quickly to leave your skin feeling hydrated and comfortable. I usually apply one or two generous layers.
Regarding the soothing and calming properties, mugwort is a proven source or such benefits. However, I’m not the best candidate to attest to its efficacy on this front. I rarely get pimples, don’t suffer redness and only get irritation if I don’t treat my skin with respect by doing things like over-exfoliating or not patch testing products that don’t agree with me. However, given regular mask wearing resulting from this pandemic, I do suffer minimal maskne which is the only scenario that presented itself during the couple of months of use. Since these are a rarity, it’s hard to confirm that they healed faster because of the essence. For those that suffer this condition, it’s comforting to read the countless reviews that do in fact praise this product’s calming prowess. Overall though, my skin looked healthier, clearer and felt fresher for using this twice daily and perhaps it was an acne preventative for me.
the conclusion
I don’t believe I’ve read any negative words about this essence, so clearly, it’s universally loved and I’m no exception. I think it would suit all skin types. The hydration and moisture it offers is something all can benefit from, while the soothing properties are of course beneficial for the target audience with irritated, acne prone or generally troubled skin. Additionally, the rest of us can appreciate its detoxifying power to keep skin healthy and clear. It’s clean and it’s effective and definitely one I’d keep in my arsenal to get one step closer to glass skin.
