the science

A highly emollient blend of oils is lead by Safflower Seed Oil which is represented at the highest concentration. Rich in fatty acids and particularly high in Linolenic Acid, it can help to reduce dryness and boost skin softness. Presenting good amounts of antioxidants through Vitamin E plus fatty Oleic and Linoleic Acids, Apricot Kernel Oil is nicely moisturizing.

Composed primarily of wax esters, Jojoba Seed Oil resembles human sebum for fast and effortless absorption into the skin and superior moisturisation without clogging pores. Additionally, this characteristic helps regulate sebum production and balance facial oils. Similarly, Sunflower Seed Oil is a well absorbed, lightweight oil without residue that’s rich in linoleic acid and Vitamin E. Essential fatty acids help to maintain the skin barrier and decrease transepidermal water loss, keeping skin supple and soft. Its emollient nature ensures smoother more hydrated skin for longer. Antioxidants provide anti-ageing advantages and caretenoids make it a good acne treatment.

Comprising approximately 70% Linoleic Acid (Omega 6), 16% Oleic Acid (Omega 9), 7% Palmitic Acid and 4% Stearic Acid plus small amounts of Palmitoleic Acid, Vitamin E and beta-Carotene, Grape Seed Oil is another lightweight oil that’s easily absorbed to moisturise without residue. Its astringent and antiseptic qualities help to nourish and repair skin. Grape seed oil is non-comedogenic due to its high fatty acid content, able to reduce clogged pores, eliminate acne causing bacteria and balance oil production. As such, it is particularly useful for acne sufferers and people with oily complexions. Grape seed oil also provides anti-ageing benefits by eradicating free radicals and promoting collagen restoration at the cellular level for smoother, firmer skin.

Helping to deliver replenishing and moisturising properties, Sweet Almond Oil is another emollient ingredient that’s rich in fatty acids helping to lock in moisture and form a protective barrier. Apart from its well known moisturising and softening properties, Olive Oil is incredibly restorative and renewing due its ability to penetrate the skin’s surface. It’s a source of antioxidants and is also effective at breaking down waxy and water resistant substances like makeup. Finally, adding a natural, fresh aroma as well as being a potential sensitizer, is Mandarin Orange Oil.

the performance

Firstly, the bottle is well designed with an effective and drip-free pump dispenser. Given the clarity of the plastic vessel, it appears the product is not light sensitive. It retains a glorious golden hue and has a lovely lightweight silky texture. However, it’s not super thin which I like as it doesn’t escape your hands too easily. The Mandarin Essential Oil gives it the slightest sweet citrus scent which is very pleasant and subtle. Although this might be bothersome to the most sensitive of skin types, the formula is extremely gentle, all inclusions rating an EWG and CosDNA green 1, confirming product safety.

I use this as the first step of my evening routine to remove the day’s impurities including any makeup or sunscreen I may have applied throughout the day. Used on dry skin, I opt for two pumps as I like to generously massage my cleansing oils for around 10 minutes without causing friction. I find cleansing oils incredibly effective at reducing and even eliminating whiteheads. I finish with the Meejee silicone cleansing device for a minute or two before rinsing. (If you struggle with blocked pores, whiteheads or blackheads, see Meejee Method).

Let’s first consider this product’s cleansing ability when it comes to makeup removal. I swatched several long wearing lip products, mascara and liners on the back of my hand, let them dry down well and then applied a couple of pumps of the cleaning oil and only used my fingers to dislodge the makeup. I applied a cotton round at the end of the process to wipe all the gunk away. As can be seen from the images below, (progress shown in a clockwise, left-to-right direction), the results are great! Nothing is left after a couple of minutes of basic massage (image 3), the cotton simply wiping it all away. This has performed extremely well, particularly when compared to other oils I’ve used. Furthermore, it removes sunscreen with ease.

To aid emulsification, I use warm water for product removal. The oil becomes slightly milky upon contact with water, and with a light massage, removes easily to reveal fresh, clean skin.

Urang Natural Cleansing Oil for Makeup Removal
For me, the measure of a good cleansing oil is not only in its makeup and sunscreen removal effectiveness, but also in its ability to clear the pores. With fingertip massage, this cleansing oil reaches into the pore to remove old sebum, dead cells and impurities quite well. Furthermore, what it does brilliantly with its gorgeous blend of emollient seed oils, is moisturise and soften the skin. After a 10 minute massage, my skin is baby soft and velvety smooth. No other cleansing oil has been this effective at enhancing skin texture. I simply love the results.

the conclusion

The Urang Natural Cleansing Oil delivers on all its claims in a gentle and effective manner. It’s a beautiful makeup and sunscreen remover, pore cleanser and skin softener. Definitely one of the better cleansing oils I have tried.

I’ve used two products from Urang so far, this cleansing oil and the divine Brightening Blue Oil Serum. The latter is probably my favourite oil serum, period. This cleansing oil has made a similar impression. I simply love it. So looking forward to trying a lot more from this gorgeous brand.
