It instantly infuses with essential hydration to quench skin’s thirst and reverse the visible signs of aging; consequently, improving skin’s density creating a soft and supple veil.

the science

The hero of the formula is of course Hyaluronic Acid (HA). It’s found in the body naturally but declines with age. By 40, the body produces half as much HA as it did in our 20’s. It is able to hold up to 1000 times its weight in water for a plumping effect on the skin. Snow Mushroom supports HA as it generates a natural film of hydration to keep skin moist and improve elasticity. Since this film is subject to very little shrinkage over time, it is able to deliver high moisturisarion and antioxidant protection. Snow Mushroom is said to hold even more water than HA as well as penetrate more effectively because of its smaller molecular size. The inclusion of Vitamin B5, Panthenol enhances this function further as it is able to reach into the lower layers for deep cell absorption and hence effective moisturisation.

Other exotic plants include Lotus Extract and Cabbage Rose Flower Water, beneficial for the skin as they are antioxidant and vitamin rich to help purify, minimise the appearance of pores, moisturise and hydrate. Lotus also contains natural AHAs to exfoliate for a refreshed and youthful look while Rosewater is great for treating inflammation and acne due to antiseptic properties. Breadfruit Wood Extract appears as the last ingredient, included for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Ascorbic Acid is considered the most potent form of Vitamin C, highly effective at concentrations over 20%. With continued use, it can visibly decrease wrinkles and skin damage, improve skin texture and tone and also boost collagen production. At less than 1% concentration, it’s unlikely that these benefits can be fully realised in this serum.

Glycerin features prominently in the formula (second only to water) to enhance hydration, while Propanediol, Caprylyl Glycol and Methyl Gluceth-20 also offer humectant properties as well as imparting an emollient effect to help soften the skin. Hydrolyzed Silk displays water binding properties too.

Featuring quite high in the INCI is Phenoxyethanol, a widely used synthetic preservative. It has global approval for use in all cosmetics at concentrations up to 1%, indicating that all following ingredients each make up less than 1% of the formulation. Finally, Butylene Glycol and Methylpropanediol assist to increase the penetration of other ingredients.

Remaining items comprise emulsifiers, conditioning and thickening agents plus preservatives.

the analysis

Both the CosDNA and EWG resources, rate the B-Liv HA Temptation as a moderate hazard with a few warning flags as shown. The primary concern is Octoxynol-9 which is used in skincare to stabilise and avoid ingredient separation. It is a by-product of petroleum production that can cause irritation and contact dermatitis.

the performance

The B-Liv HA Tempation comes in a small, clear bottle with a dropper dispenser. It’s lightweight, aesthetically attractive and easy to use. The serum doesn’t drip when raised out of the bottle either so there is no waste. There’s no added fragrance and no detectable scent to it which is wonderful!

Regarding texture, the serum is water like in clarity but denser in viscosity. It glides on easily with plenty of slip and absorbs well with an initial tackiness that subsides fairly quickly. You only need a couple of drops to cover the entire face and neck. It also layers very well with my other serums and creams.

B-Liv HA Temptation serum appearance
I used this as my primary hydrator within both morning and night time routines, applying it after cleansing, toning and essence but before cream/oil. I tested it’s ability to retain moisture overnight by omitting oil and sleeping packs and even just using emulsion rather than a heavier occlusive cream as my last step. I was pleasantly surprised that it retained a good amount of moisture in my skin overnight. I was definitely ready for my morning hydration by then, but coupled with my regular last steps of cream and oil, it supported my skin’s moisture levels wonderfully.

Using this as directed, twice daily, my skin retained a healthy amount of moisture and looked fresher and plump. The hydration lasted well between applications too. Skin moisture is key when trying to delay ageing, roughness and dehydration for a healthy, supple complexion. This serum definitely achieved good levels of hydration to successfully help combat these skin complaints.

the conclusion

Small in stature but big in performance, the B-Liv HA Temptation surprised me with its hydration ability. I totally enjoyed using this serum and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it for all skin types.
