the science

Rosapene™ is a brand trademarked antioxidant complex that includes Tomato, Cranberry and Sunflower Seed Oils, Acai Fruit Oil, Oat Kernel Extract, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Lycopene and Tocopherol. Rich in antioxidants, the complex is effective at warding off free radicals and reducing the impact of environmental stressors and hence premature ageing. It also includes essential fatty acids which help to retain and restore the moisture barrier plus improve softness and elasticity for more supple and hydrated skin.

Helping to deliver replenishing and moisturising properties and represented at the highest concentration following water is Sweet Almond Oil, an emollient oil whose function is further strengthened by Cocoa Seed Butter. Both are rich in fatty acids helping to lock in moisture and form a protective barrier. Similarly offering emollient properties is Aloe Vera Leaf Extract. As well as improving moisture, it displays calming effects beneficial for soothing sensitive or irritated skin. Similarly, Evening Primrose Seed Oil and Eyebright Extract also reduce inflammation and calm the skin. The former due to a high level of Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA), the latter additionally able to reduce puffiness.

Hydrogenated Jojoba Seed Oil is simplify a solidified form of the liquid oil. Jojoba is lightweight, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. It’s also similar to sebum in structure so is readily absorbed into the skin to deliver softening and moisturising effects without greasiness. With a similar molecular structure, the brand’s signature ingredient, Rosehip Seed Oil is certified organic and cold-pressed to maximise the effectiveness of a high concentration of fatty acids (minimum 80%) which strengthen and hydrate the skin barrier. Avocado Oil boosts this capability as it nourishes the skin. Shea Butter is a concentrated source of natural vitamins and fatty acids, also making it incredibly moisturising and nourishing for the skin as well as improving ability to produce collagen.

A formula rich in antioxidants incorporates Vitamin E and Carrot Oil. Finally, a solid dose of Glycerin contributes humectant properties to the cream, helping to draw moisture from the air into the skin.

the performance

Cleanly presented in a streamlined tube, the Trilogy Eye Contour Cream comprises great ingredients for great results. Firstly, the packaging is fantastic. A narrow opening allows you to dispense the cream hygienically and in tiny amounts so none is wasted. There is no build up around the nozzle either, suggesting an air tight seal. It’s petite, lightweight design, firm open/close mechanism and seemingly unbreakable plastic casing also makes it incredibly travel friendly. I couldn’t really detect a smell although with all the botanicals, there may be some scent. In any case, it is very subtle and naturally derived without any added fragrance.

Trilogy Eye Contour Cream Detail
The product itself is silky smooth in texture. It spreads across the delicate skin around the eye easily and absorbs quickly so you can apply eye makeup directly without any significant delay, the cream acting like a primer. It instantly feels moisturising without greasiness or tackiness. And the effects last all day, my skin feeling soft and supple between applications. It has never produced any milia (the white bumps that can occur when keratin becomes trapped beneath the surface of the skin) and has been nothing but a pleasure to use.

I have been using this cream on and off for around six months, either once or twice a day, interrupting continuous use to test a few other products. It seamlessly fits into my morning and/or evening routine. When I revisit it, it reminds me why I enjoy it so much. It is a quiet achiever, working away in the background to provide all the promised claims. A couple of things in particular that I enjoy about this product are that firstly, it’s not heavy and secondly, it’s rich in antioxidant protection so would suit all skin types. Several of the plant oils such as sunflower and jojoba, work well with oily skin while others like rosehip provide deep hydration suiting mature and dry skin types. Furthermore, although 20ml doesn’t sound like a lot, it lasts a long time. The dispensing mechanism ensures you only use what you need without having to smear excess cream over the cheeks or forehead.

Reflecting on the product claims, it certainly delivers both on the reduction of puffiness and smoothing of lines. My crow’s feet appear slightly softer. Having said that, I also use other anti-ageing products in my routines such as peptides focused on wrinkle control. So perhaps this cream can’t take the full credit for the apparent slowing of the signs of ageing but it has definitely contributed. As for puffiness, it’s only a condition I suffer when I don’t get sufficient sleep. Thankfully for the purpose of this review, I haven’t been sleeping well lately, averaging around 5-6 hours (as opposed to my preferred 7-8) over the last few months. As much as that has been a problem personally, it has certainly tested the eye cream. I have suffered lack of sleep but not puffiness, so this cream goes a long way to keeping your eyes looking fresh and hydrated.

Trilogy Eye Contour Cream

the conclusion

Once again, Trilogy has delivered a product of high quality ingredients and excellent efficacy. This eye cream has provided me moisture while also smoothing lines and eliminating puffiness. It is suitable for all skin types and definitely worth a try.
