The Cosrx Ultimate Moisturising Rice Overnight Spa Mask comprises more than 68.9% rice extract. It claims to deliver intense, powerful hydration while rejuvenating and nourishing skin overnight, promising healthier more radiant skin.
Rich in amino acids, vitamin E and ferulic acid, Rice Extract has anti-inflammatory and calming effects, also providing short and long term skin hydration. It’s great for sensitive and acne prone skin types.
Sunflower Seed Oil is lightweight and enriched with lineoleic acid and Vitamin E. It’s well absorbed without residue. Essential fatty acids help to maintain the skin barrier and decrease transepidermal water loss, keeping skin supple and soft. Its emollient nature ensures smoother more hydrated skin for longer. Antioxidants provide anti-ageing advantages while anti-inflammatory properties boost new cell production and reduce irritation for a radiant glow. This is complemented by Palm Oil which contains Toctrienols, a potent form of vitamin E.
Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) is a superstar ingredient that acts as a restorative agent. It helps to brighten skin by inhibiting melanin production and is also an effective treatment against hyperpigmentation. Niacinamide can improve the appearance of enlarged pores, uneven skin tone, fine lines and dullness plus strengthen the skin surface.
There are several other ingredients included to increase skin moisture. Often coupled in cosmetic formulations, Cetearyl Olivate and Sorbitan Olivate present a unique natural emulsifier derived from olive oil which reduces water loss and moisturises the skin. As well as being an effective humectant like Glycerin and Betaine, Butylene Glycol assists to increase the penetration of other ingredients and hence boost their effectiveness. Allantoin is found in the root of the Comfrey herb. It is able to promote healing while also increasing the water content of the skin. This in turn encourages sensitive skin to become more resilient and promotes repair of the moisture barrier.
Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract (68.9%), Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Betaine, Niacinamide, Dimethicone, 1,2-Hexanediol, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Oil, Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Kernel Oil, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Arginine, Carbomer, Allantoin, Xanthan Gum

The Cosrx Ultimate Moisturising Rice Overnight Spa Mask is presented in a handy squeeze tube with flip top cap. It has a clean white appearance and dispenses easily. It looks like a regular moisturiser, exhibiting a lightweight consistency resembling a texture somewhere between cream and lotion. The smell is extremely delicate, so much so, I have to concentrate to detect it at all. And it’s so subtle, it’s hard to describe. To me it smells fresh and clean, slightly like soap. I can’t really identify any of the ingredients in the aroma (not even rice at nearly 70% concentration), but it’s the result of the formulation with nothing artificial included to enhance this aspect of the product. No added fragrance is a definite advantage, particularly for those with sensitive skin.
It applies very smoothly without tugging. It feels like a lotion, absorbing into the skin without leaving any uncomfortable or overly occlusive film. It does leave a tacky finish which fades once it fully dries down. Application delivers an instant moisturising effect.
In addition to applying the product as an overnight treatment, it can also be used as a wash off mask or moisturiser. As a wash off product, it requires a 15+ minute wear time, enough to give the skin a quick boost. The overnight solution provides hydration which pleasantly lasts for many hours. In general, the longer it stays on the skin, the more obvious the improvement in water content. As a regular moisturiser, I simply add it to my evening routine at the step following serum or emulsion. Is there a difference in application when compared to a sleeping mask? I think not. Its purpose, whether defined as a cream or sleeping pack, is identical. It’s basically an overnight application to finish the routine, the shared objective to deliver long lasting hydration. And that it does.
The first few times I applied this mask, I did so after my cream and oil had dried down. Since then, I have decided this is a bit excessive, and I don’t need quite so much hydration in the one routine. It does a really good job of attracting and sealing in moisture so it’s unnecessary to precede it with too many layers dedicated to the same cause. As such, I now couple it with emulsion only (no cream or oil) and use it 2-3 times a week. This combination seems to provide the ideal balance of hydrating layers, allowing the mask closer access to the skin, reducing the need to fight through cream and oil to do its job. I only apply it overnight as I’m more likely to use a hydrating mask like the Andalou Naturals Rosewater Mask if I want a wash off equivalent.
The results speak for themselves. By morning my skin is noticeably soft and supple. The moisture improvement is significant and seemingly lasts throughout the day with the help of my regular morning routine. It claims to deliver intense and powerful hydration while rejuvenating and nourishing the skin overnight and I’m surprised at just how well this is achieved. I cannot fault this mask, everything about it is favourable for my combination skin. My face looks considerably healthier and more radiant after using it.
The Cosrx Ultimate Moisturising Rice Overnight Spa Mask is a joy to use. Suitable for all skin types, it’s CosDNA and EWG approved, gentle and super effective as well as being budget friendly like most products in this brand. I can’t wait to try the honey version next.
